This one really exposes some of my methods because the viewer is right in the intimate space of the subjects. I tried to keep the background simpler so it couldn't distract from the impact of the kiss.
At some point it occurred to me that the story was really depressing and needed a jolt of positive energy. An alternative title I considered was "Life Isn't All Misery and Fighting," since that is the line she says right before kissing Rudy. Despite this, she still cries because he is grave in danger.
I love this so. much. There's a really great vibrant moment in the bodies of the people that seems to flow in and out of the two of them. The colors and anatomy are very mechanical,. but I love that the lips and tear are real and warm looking.
It's evident the special treatment you gave to their faces above everything else. It's clear you wanted to emphasize the kiss and I really think you did a great job with that. Wow.

I'm trying to move away from the mechanical nature a bit, but there are some things ... like the lines that define the knuckles of the hands ... that I really like. I have yet to get a knack for doing folds of skin, though, like, where people bend their joints and the skin bunches up. That kinda thing is hard to predict without a live model.
What a sad love. I love those spirits in your drawings you create with the colours and actions in them. One does not immediately think of danger when looking at it..here, in that separately posted picture, of course. Knowing that she is in danger, however, adds a new layer to it.
